GROUND WATER AWARENESS

Awareness promoting education concerning ground water is a top priority. Responsible water use by the public is very important. This is your time as a "Ground Water Professional" or "Well Owner" to observe the importance of protecting and managing the valuable resource of ground water. It is time to do your part. Protect the ground water by making sure pollutants cannot enter the underground aquifer through failed wastewater treatment systems (septic tank and drainfield), around well fields, or wellhead contamination. Be sure not to place pollutants, pesticides or hazardous materials near the well. Keep a "clean" zone of at least 50 feet from your well and kennels and livestock operations.

Preventative maintenance is essential and is usually less costly than emergency maintenance. It can prolong life of the well along with the equipment. Testing of the water for coliform bacteria and nitrates and anything else of local concern should be a yearly priority of well owners. Inspection of the water system will also determine if the equipment is working properly. It will also assure it is sanitary and meets local code. Checking the well cap or seal ensures that a proper seal is protecting the aquifer from insects and rodents. Wellhead flooding should also be noted.

An annual water well checkup is a great way of making sure that the Well Owner is doing their part in protecting their valuable water resource. A qualified Well Contractor or Pump Installer Contractor is the best way to ensure problem-free service and quality water.
